Beyond the Boardwalk: Hidden Gems for Couples in Va Beach

Virginia Beach, Virginia, is loaded with different things for everyone in the family to enjoy. However, are you looking for things to do with your significant other? If so, you have come to the right place, as we have some great suggestions for couples looking for things to do in Virginia Beach. These activities hopefully will be new to you. Also, this list will focus on things that don't involve the boardwalk, so get ready to have some fun!

1. Take a Walk on The Beach at Sandbridge

Sandbridge is a beach along the Atlantic Ocean situated in the southern area of Virginia Beach. I appreciate this beach for its lesser crowds compared to the boardwalk beaches, making it an ideal spot for peaceful walks and potential seashell discoveries. My wife and I relish long strolls in Sandbridge almost year-round. Moreover, dogs are allowed on the beach throughout the year, except from 10 am to 6 pm during the summer months (Memorial Day to Labor Day). Just ensure to keep them on a leash.

2. Enjoy a Fun Game of Putt-Putt Golf

While putt-putt is a fantastic game for the entire family, it becomes even more enjoyable when you compete against your better half. Switch up your date night routine and engage in a friendly game of putt-putt. With several locations in Virginia Beach to choose from, my wife and I particularly like Lynnhaven Golf Park. This sports complex offers not only putt-putt but also features a golf driving range and batting cages. Conveniently located about a 15-minute drive from the oceanfront, it tends to be less crowded than the putt-putt spots at the boardwalk.

3. Catch a Performance at The Sandler Center

The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts is a versatile theatre hosting a variety of performances throughout the year. This cultural hub showcases both local talents and national acts multiple times annually, making it an excellent venue for musicals, plays, concerts, and ballets. With a diverse range of events each month, there's something to captivate even the most discerning tastes. If you're seeking a delightful evening, immersing yourself in the performing arts at the Sandler Center is sure to exceed expectations!

4. Whale Watching in The Winter Season

For a truly unique adventure for couples, embarking on a whale-watching tour by the Virginia Aquarium is a must. Located just a 5-minute drive from the oceanfront, these cruises typically last 2-3 hours and are held daily from December 16th through March 3rd. Although sightings are never guaranteed, you have the chance to witness the majestic Humpback Whales, other whale species, Bottlenose Dolphins, seabirds, and waterfowl. Encountering the massive Humpback Whales can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Given that the tours operate during winter, be sure to dress accordingly for this thrilling and potentially chilly adventure.

5. Take in a Movie at Cinema Cafe

For a perfect date night, nothing beats an evening at the movies, and Cinema Cafe takes this experience to the next level. Beyond the usual movie offerings, Cinema Cafe provides a full-service dining menu right during the film. The service staff ensures you enjoy snacks like popcorn or a delightful mixed drink from the bar. Alongside the fantastic food and drinks, you'll luxuriate in comfort with their recliner seats and rocking chairs in each theater. With several locations throughout Hampton Roads and two in Virginia Beach, Cinema Cafe guarantees a cinematic experience unlike any other.

6. Top Golf at Virginia Beach

I didn't mean to include two golf-themed activities on this list, but I promise they are worth mentioning. TopGolf in Virginia Beach offers incredible fun for you and your date. TopGolf is a sports entertainment complex with over a hundred climate-controlled bays where you can golf. It's like a driving range; however, they have technology that helps create fun with their interactive games. In addition to the games, they also offer a full-service bar and dining menu in addition to the live sports and music playing everyday.

7. Tribal Axe in Virginia Beach

Over the last few years, a new activity has emerged, and it's making a claim for top enjoyment for all involved. That activity would be axe-throwing, and this craze has made its way into Virginia Beach as well. Axe throwing may sound a little intimidating, however, it can be loads of fun when done in a safe manner and location such as Tribal Axe in Virginia Beach. Offering several throwing lanes and a full-service bar, I promise you and your date will have an unforgettable time!
