Pros of Living in Norfolk Virginia:

  1. Sporting Teams

My #1 pro of living in Norfolk, Virginia isn’t one I believe many people consider.  I’m a huge sports fan and I feel Norfolk has a lot to offer when it comes to sports teams. From a professional standpoint, Norfolk has the Norfolk Tides for Triple-A baseball and also the Norfolk Admirals which play hockey in the ECHL, which is considered Double-A.  Additionally Norfolk is home to the universities of Old Dominion and Norfolk State.  Both programs have sports teams that play against many top programs in the nation.

  1. Nightlife/Restaurants

One of the major pros of living in Norfolk, Virginia would have to be the overall nightlife and availability of restaurants throughout the city.  The Ghent and Waterside areas of Norfolk offer many great options for food and enjoyment with friends and family.  In Ghent there are many different restaurants to choose from as well as some great theater and music venues.  Additionally in the Waterside area there are a few different breweries, restaurants and nightspots to enjoy.

  1. Historical Homes

The City of Norfolk Virginia has a lot of history to it.  It was founded in 1682 and throughout the city there is a lot of history.  One of the things I really like about the city is the collection of historical homes the city has.  Each home has its own unique charm and walking through the Ghent area you will see the history.

     2. Flooding

The City of Norfolk Virginia has many low lying areas throughout the city.  Therefore whenever there is a large amount of rain or when a hurricane comes through, some of the low lying areas tend to flood.  Many parts of the cities can be inundated with the flood waters multiple times a year.  This can cause a lot of issues when traveling through the city.  When you are looking to move into the city of Norfolk, you will need to review the flood maps to determine if you will need flood insurance.  The city of Norfolk, Virginia has maps and other information available here.

     3. Traffic

The City of Norfolk, Virginia is home to the largest Naval Base in the world, Norfolk Naval.  Additionally there are tunnels connecting the city to Portsmouth and Hampton.  As the city is along the coast, there are also many bridges throughout the city. This can cause a lot of headaches for motorists as they traverse through the city.  Traffic is an issue for pretty much every city in Hampton Roads and Norfolk is no different.
