Top 3 Must-Visit Beaches in Virginia Beach
When planning a vacation to Virginia Beach, you'll find some of the best spots to relax along the Atlantic Ocean. Virginia Beach Oceanfront is the premier destination for entertainment, hotels, and dining. You'll love the easy access to the vibrant boardwalk, perfect for family outings or a serene evening walk.
The Oceanfront area of Virginia Beach is by far the most popular beach in the city. It's where most of the summer activities happen, and it's also usually the most crowded.
However, the Oceanfront isn't the only beach in Virginia Beach. There are several options if you want to enjoy your time out on the sand during the summer. Keep reading below as we list our Top 3 beaches in Virginia Beach, Virginia along with what makes them so awesome.
Top 3 Beaches in Virginia Beach, Virginia
Virginia Beach offers an array of beautiful beaches, each with its unique charm. Some of the beaches are known for their amenities and activities, while others are known to be less crowded and much more peaceful. Here, you'll learn about my favorite beaches, as these are the three top-rated beaches: Sandbridge Beach, Chesapeake Bay Beach, and Oceanfront Beach.
Sandbridge Beach
Sandbridge Beach is a quieter spot, ideal for those seeking a peaceful getaway. This beach is my favorite beach, and it's where you will find my family and me many times throughout the year. Located south of the main resort area, it offers vast stretches of clean sand and gentle waves, making it perfect for family vacations. You can swim in the calm waters or explore the local wildlife at Back Bay National Refuge.
Unlike the Oceanfront area, there are no hotels located at this beach. However, there are many vacation rentals and beach houses available here, offering a homey feel. Lifeguards are on duty during peak season, ensuring a safe environment for everyone. Fishing, surfing, and paddleboarding are popular activities, as is looking for seashells at the shore.
During your visit, you might even spot dolphins swimming close to shore, especially during sunrise and sunset. Sandbridge Beach provides an excellent escape from the busier beaches in Virginia Beach.
Chick's Beach
Chick's Beach, located on the Chesapeake Bay, is known for its calm waters and scenic views. Thanks to the gentle waves, it's an excellent spot for families with young children. The beach offers picnic areas, perfect for a relaxing day out. First Landing State Park is located along this beach and provides many amenities, like showers and picnic areas.
In addition to swimming, you can enjoy various activities like kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding. The area has calmer water and is less crowded than the oceanfront beaches, providing a serene setting.
Lifeguards are present to ensure safety, and the shallow waters make it ideal for swimming. A few restaurants and shops are nearby, so you can grab a bite or do some light shopping after your beach time.
The Oceanfront
The Oceanfront is the heart of Virginia Beach's tourism. It features a three-mile boardwalk lined with hotels, restaurants, and shops. It's known for its bustling atmosphere and plenty of activities for everyone.
The wide, sandy beach is perfect for sunbathing, beach sports, and swimming. Lifeguards are on duty, providing a safe environment for beachgoers. Concerts and festivals frequently take place here, adding to the vibrant vibe.
At the Oceanfront, you can rent bikes or take a stroll along the boardwalk. In the evening, the nightlife options, including bars and clubs, keep the excitement going. This beach truly offers something for everyone, making it a top choice for both locals and tourists. The only drawback of this beach is the fact that during the summer months, it can get very crowded.
